Born in New York to a Russian father and a Roman mother, Archdeacon Vsevolod Borzakovsky grew up in Rome where he attended international schools. In 1990, he undertook university studies at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Gregorian Pontifical University. After obtaining his diploma, he transferred to Paris where he continued his studies at the Faculty of Theology, of the “Académie de Théologie Orthodoxe St. Serge” (Saint Serge Orthodox Theology Academy), where he completed his doctorate. His specialization was liturgical theology and the Byzantine Ordo. He published articles on the problem of the calendar of the Orthodox Church. After returning to Rome, he was ordained Deacon in 1996, following which he joined the clergy of the Russian Orthodox Parish of Rome. In 1998, he transferred to the United States. Assigned to the Saint Nicholas metropolitan cathedral, he was promoted to the rank of Archdeacon of the Church of the American Metropolitan Teodose. In 2003, at the request of the Patriarch of Moscow Alexis II, he returned to Rome where he currently works. Father Vsevolod belongs to the “white clergy” (married) and has five children.
