He has a Ph.D. in Religion and Philosophy from California, specializing in Sufism and Eastern spiritual traditions. He also has Masters degrees in Clinical Psychology and in Consciousness studies and a B.S. in Physics and Philosophy of Science from various universities in the USA. He has been associated with several, mostly Eastern, spiritual traditions. His work in Pakistan over the last 12 years include working with the Human Right's Commission and as a social activist on issues of violence and intolerance in the region.

As a psychologist he has taught at the University in Islamabad for five years and for seven years has been working with the World Food Program, UN, covering Asia and the Middle East as their staff counselor.
